In Belsvika in Heim municipality on the mainland side of Trondheimsleia is one of the country's largest hatcheries for salmon. Fertilized roe are delivered here, which are hatched in the hatchery and the fish grows through various stages until it is fully smoltified and ready to go into the sea.
We take you by sea from the Hitra Hurtigbåt terminal in Sandstad and into the fjords to Belsvika. The boat trip takes about 15 minutes and is a great experience in a safe environment. At the front of the large facility, we go through all the different departments that the fish are kept in. Along the way, we see how the fish grow, but also how the recycling facilities are getting bigger and bigger, there is a lot that needs to be in place for the water conditions for the fish to be good .
During the tour, our facilitators explain and show through large panoramic windows how the daily care, feeding and vaccination of the fish takes place. We also focus on how the hatchery is an imitation of the river, where the wild salmon are conceived, hatched and grow up before they are ready to go out to sea to grow up.
